Hungary’s Magyar calls for resignations after election victory
Peter Magyar, leader of Hungary’s Tisza party, called on senior state officials to resign after his party’s election victory.
Speaking at a rally in Budapest on April 12, Magyar urged President Tamas Sulyok to invite him to form a government and then step down.
He also called on Prime Minister Viktor Orban to refrain from taking major decisions during the transition period.
Magyar said he planned to revive cooperation within the Visegrad Group, adding that his first foreign visit as prime minister would be to Poland, followed by Austria and Brussels.
He pledged to improve ties with the European Union and secure EU funds for Hungary.
Magyar, 45, a former government insider who moved into opposition in 2024, has campaigned on rule of law reforms, anti-corruption measures and restoring relations with EU institutions.
