Wanted felon neutralized after armed confrontation with police in Azerbaijan

A wanted criminal with an extensive record was neutralized by Azerbaijani law enforcement officers after opening fire during an attempted arrest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The suspect, identified as M. Mirzayev, was sought on charges of fraud and illegal possession of firearms. Authorities noted that he had previous convictions for intentional homicide, illegal acquisition and possession of firearms, robbery, smuggling, and illicit drug trafficking.

During the apprehension attempt, Mirzayev put up armed resistance against the responding officers. Police returned fire using their service weapons, neutralizing the suspect at the scene.

A Makarov pistol was recovered from the site of the clash. An investigation into the incident is underway.
