Supreme Court upholds Ramin Isayev verdict
The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has dismissed a cassation appeal filed by Ramin Isayev, former general director of SOCAR-AQS LLC, who was convicted of embezzling 54 million manats. In a judicial session presided over by Judge Ilgar Jafarov, the bench rejected the appeal, upholding the substantive verdict previously issued by lower court instances.
Earlier, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Isayev to 14 years' imprisonment alongside a four-year ban on holding managerial or financially accountable posts in state and municipal bodies. The court also sustained SOCAR’s civil damages claim and ordered the confiscation of his assets, a ruling that was subsequently sustained by the Baku Court of Appeal.
Dismissed from SOCAR-AQS in 2020, Isayev was arrested by the Prosecutor General's Anti-Corruption General Directorate and charged with large-scale embezzlement, money laundering, abuse of official authority, and official forgery under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
