Georgia’s Municipal Development Fund to Oversee Construction of New Embassy Complex in Baku
Procurement for the architectural design and construction of Georgia’s new embassy compound in Azerbaijan will be managed by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, pursuant to a decree signed by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. Under the executive decision, the diplomatic mission will be erected on a 3,444.5-square-meter parcel situated at the intersection of Nariman Narimanov and Bashir Safaroglu streets in Baku's Yasamal district. The project will be tendered under a unified "Design-Build" turnkey procurement contract.
Initial operations scheduled for 2026 will be financed through the fund’s allocated allocations in the Georgian state budget, with succeeding phases factored into the 2027 and subsequent fiscal budgets. Upon completion, the facility will be transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. Azerbaijan allocated and transferred the site—designated for both the chancellery and the ambassadorial residence—in January 2025. Georgia's diplomatic representation in Baku is currently housed on Yashar Huseynov Street (13/15) in the Narimanov district.
