Azerspace-1 generates $10m in first half of year

Azerbaijan’s first telecommunications satellite, Azerspace-1, generated about $10 million in the first half of the year, said Ali Abbasov, minister of communications and information technology.The satellite will bring more money to Azerbaijan as many countries of the North Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe are showing interest in it, Abbasov told reporters today in Baku, the Azeri capital.The $205-million satellite, designed and built by Orbital Sciences Corp., was sent into orbit in February. It provides communications services to Azerbaijan, Central Asia, Europe and Africa.

Azerbaijan plans to launch two more communications satellite in 2015 and 2016, President Ilham Aliyev said in February.
