German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said a U.S. decision to reduce its military presence in Germany was not linked to disagreements with President Donald Trump over Iran.

In an interview with ARD, Merz said Washington may have different views on some international issues, but this did not affect the strategic importance of the United States for Germany and NATO.

“This does not change my belief that the United States remains an important partner for us,” he said.
