Trump says Iran retains limited missile and drone capabilities

Iran still possesses some missiles and drones, as well as limited weapons-production capacity, despite U.S. military strikes, President Donald Trump said.

“They have some missiles, some drones and a certain amount of production capacity, but not much,” Trump told reporters near Washington.

Trump also said the United States controlled the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and claimed that Iran no longer had meaningful control capabilities in the area.

The president did not provide evidence for his assessment. The extent of the damage to Iran’s remaining arsenal and weapons-production capacity could not be independently verified.

Trump also said the United States would carry out further powerful strikes against Iran, without specifying the potential targets or timing of the operations.

U.S. forces have in recent days targeted Iranian command centres, air-defence and coastal surveillance facilities, naval assets, and missile and drone positions. Washington says the campaign is intended to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
