Turkmenistan sends first domestically-built cargo vessel to Baku
Turkmenistan has sent the first dry cargo vessel fully built in the country for use in the Caspian Sea to the Baku International Sea Trade Port, Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammed Ilyasov, said.
According to the ambassador, the vessel, with a cargo capacity of 6,100 tonnes, was built at the Balkan Shipyard in the city of Turkmenbashi in cooperation with a South Korean company.
Construction of the vessel began in the autumn of 2024. It is the first of two dry cargo ships being built under a contract with the Korean company.
The vessel is primarily designed for container transportation and will operate on Caspian regional routes, including services to Azerbaijan.
It's first voyage to the Port of Baku is being viewed as a symbol of growing transport and logistics cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
