Kazakhstan increases oil exports via Azerbaijan
Kazakhstan plans to increase oil exports through routes passing via Azerbaijan, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Kazakh authorities expect shipments through these routes to reach up to 20 million tonnes annually.
In February, Kazakhstan increased oil exports through the BTC pipeline by 8.5% from January to 115,000 tonnes. Shipments via BTC totalled 1.2 million tonnes in 2025, while transit volumes are planned to rise to 1.6 million tonnes in 2026.
Astana’s growing interest in the Azerbaijani route comes as Kazakhstan seeks to diversify oil exports amid risks and disruptions affecting the Russian route operated by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
