A ministerial meeting of countries participating in the Black Sea Energy Electric Cable project will be held in Baku in late June, Vesti.az reported, citing Green Energy Corridor Power Company.

The meeting will discuss the project’s 2027–2028 budget, technical and commercial aspects, and preparations for a seabed survey in the Black Sea, which is due to start this year.

The project aims to export green electricity from Azerbaijan to Europe via Georgia and the Black Sea. Preliminary estimates suggest supplies could begin in 2032.

British companies Xlinks and Zhero are developing the cable route, while Italy’s CESI spa has received a new three-year mandate for more detailed studies financed by the World Bank.

The project envisages three high-voltage cable lines on land and under the Black Sea, each with a capacity of 1.3 GW. Its total cost is currently estimated at more than 10 billion euros.

Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria are participating in the project, which is included in the EU’s list of Projects of Mutual Interest and its 10-year energy network development plan. The European Commission plans to allocate 2.3 billion euros for the project.
