South Caucasus Pipeline transports 130.4 bcm of gas in five years

A total of 130.4 billion cubic metres of gas was transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum South Caucasus Pipeline between August 1, 2021 and August 1, 2026, SOCAR said.

Monday marks five years since SOCAR began operating the pipeline as its technical operator.

The pipeline transported 11.4422 billion cubic metres of gas in January-June 2026, up 1.84% from the same period a year earlier.

SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations has served as the pipeline’s commercial operator since 2015 and as its technical operator since 2021.

The South Caucasus Pipeline carries gas produced from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan’s sector of the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

The pipeline was commissioned at the end of 2006 to transport gas produced under the first phase of the Shah Deniz project. Since the summer of 2018, gas produced under Shah Deniz Phase Two has been delivered through the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline to Turkey and transferred into the TANAP system.
