Azerbaijan, Armenia discuss possible cross-border electricity trade

Azerbaijani and Armenian officials met in the Azerbaijani city of Lachin on Tuesday to discuss possible electricity trade and ways to link the two countries’ power grids at their border, Azerbaijan’s government said.

The talks involved representatives of Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry and state power company Azerenerji, as well as Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and its Electricity System Operator, the government said in a statement.

It gave no details on when electricity supplies could begin or the potential volumes.

The meeting comes as the two South Caucasus neighbours seek to normalise relations after decades of conflict.
