Germany waging ‘ideological war’ against Azerbaijan – lawmaker

Germany has been waging an ideological war against Azerbaijan, said Asim Mollazade, a lawmaker and leader of the Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan.

Commenting on anti-Azerbaijan remarks by some political circles in Germany, Mollazade said Azerbaijan first came under a similar smear campaign when the country played host to the Eurovision song contest in 2012.

"Azerbaijan hosted the first European Games. Millions of people throughout the world had the chance to see Azerbaijan’s achievements and get to know our values and culture. This certainly irritates forces which do not want to see a modern and successful Azerbaijan,” Mollazade said.

Some circles in Germany, a quite large number of politicians linked with industrial groups, as well as Armenian dispora organizations and media outlets are acting against Azerbaijan.

"They are worried about the very important role Azerbaijan plays in ensuring European energy security,” Mollazade said.

Azerbaijan is becoming a center of multiculturalism and cooperation between various religious and ethnic groups. Every success by Azerbaijan prompts those forces to act against our country, the lawmaker said.

The anti-Azerbaijan forces are using democracy and human rights as a means of pressure against the country.

When police used force to disperse protesters in Yerevan, no one from the group involved in the ideological warfare against Azerbaijan voiced protest against that, Mollazade said.
