Azerbaijan’s parliament speaker invites Armenian counterpart to visit Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s parliament speaker, Sahiba Gafarova, has invited her Armenian counterpart, Alen Simonyan, to visit Azerbaijan, Simonyan said in an interview with Armenia’s Public Television.

“I can reveal a secret: a forum was recently held in Azerbaijan, and my Azerbaijani counterpart invited me to visit the country. Unfortunately, I declined the invitation because of the election campaign,” Simonyan said.

He added that politicians bear responsibility for achieving peace.

Simonyan has previously stated on several occasions that he would visit Azerbaijan if he received an invitation.

Negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a peace agreement are ongoing.
