Azerbaijan Clears Over 298,000 Hectares as Mine Action Funding Reaches $590M

Azerbaijan's Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) and partner agencies have cleared more than 298,000 hectares of land and neutralized over 260,000 mines and explosive remnants of war since the end of the 2020 conflict, ANAMA Chairman Vugar Suleymanov stated. 

Speaking at the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku, Suleymanov highlighted that over 103,000 hectares have been cleared specifically to facilitate residential projects, including housing developments, schools, and hospitals across liberated regions. 

The ANAMA chief noted that Azerbaijan has allocated roughly $590 million toward humanitarian mine action since November 2020. International donor support accounted for merely 4% of this total, with the overwhelming majority financed directly by the Azerbaijani government. Suleymanov reiterated the need for stronger international engagement to accelerate clearance operations and safeguard returning communities.
