Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoganhas signed a decree imposing a 30% tax on goods imported from the EU and a 60% tax on goods imported from other countries, including China, reported from  Resmi Gazete.

Previously, the tax was 18% on products from the EU and 30% if they came from other countries.

According to the decision, the tax-free limit on international purchases with express delivery was reduced from 150 to 30 euros.

"Products will be taxed at 30% if they come directly from the EU, and at 60% if from other countries. In the case of goods included in the list (IV) attached to the law on special consumption tax No. 4760 of 6/6/2002, a one-time tax of 20% is levied in addition to the above rates,” reads the published decree.

If the weight of the purchased goods exceeds 30 kg, they are subject to the customs commercial legislation. When calculating goods exceeding 30 kg, an additional customs duty of 48% is also applied.

The decision will enter into force in 15 days.
