Trump threatens BRICS with tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump believes the BRICS bloc undermines American interests and is considering tariffs on its members, the White House said.

“President Trump is watching the BRICS summit closely and will not allow the U.S. to be taken advantage of on the global stage,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva slammed Trump’s remarks as “irresponsible and unserious,” saying countries in the bloc reserve the right to respond in kind if tariffs are imposed.
