Around 300 passengers flee through tunnel after fire in Barcelona metro
A fire broke out in Barcelona’s metro between the Clot and Glòries stations.
The train driver spotted the flames from about 50 metres away, applied the emergency brakes and called emergency services.
Thick smoke made it difficult to breathe inside the carriages, prompting passengers to open the doors and evacuate through the tunnel before firefighters arrived.
Around 300 people were on the train at the time of the incident.
Javier Flores, director of the operating company, said the fire started after part of the tunnel cladding collapsed.
