Azerbaijan imports gold from Sweden for the first time

Azerbaijan has imported gold from Sweden for the first time in 14 years, purchasing 38.2 kg worth $4.1 million in the January–May period of 2025, according to official data.

In total, the country imported 30.9 tonnes of gold valued at $2.94 billion from 23 countries during the first five months of the year — five times higher in value and four times in volume than a year earlier.

The largest suppliers included Russia ($439.3 million), Australia ($354.7 million), the United States ($340.3 million), Kazakhstan ($262.2 million), and the United Kingdom ($256.7 million).

During the same period, Azerbaijan exported gold only to Switzerland — 1,751 kg worth $121.3 million, representing a 2.7-fold increase in value and 46% growth in volume year-on-year.
