Direct flights between Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and Turkey’s capital Ankara will resume in October, Georgia’s ambassador to Turkey Archil Kalandia said on Monday.

He said months of talks with the Turkish side culminated during President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s official visit to Ankara.

“Last year more than 1.3 million Turkish visitors came to Georgia. Restoring flights will boost business ties, ease access for Georgian tourists to Ankara and nearby regions, and support medical tourism,” the diplomat said.

Regular flights will also provide an additional boost to the tourism sectors of both countries, he added.
