Iran’s government plans to lift the ban on the messaging app Telegram in the near future, an Iranian lawmaker said, according to the Tabnak news outlet.

Mustafa Purdehghan, a member of parliament, said legislators had received unofficial information that the government had decided to remove restrictions on the platform. “We will soon hear good news regarding the lifting of the ban,” he said.

The Mehr news agency earlier reported that Iran had set several conditions for Telegram’s return, including limiting content promoting ethnic discord or terrorism and removing materials based on citizen complaints.

Authorities have also demanded Telegram cooperate with Iran’s judiciary and guarantee that user data will not be shared with foreign intelligence services.
