The brother of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Gevorg Nersisyan, and his son Ambartsum Nersisyan have been detained on charges of hooliganism and obstructing a political campaign ahead of local elections in Armenia, their lawyer Ara Zohrabyan said.

The incident took place in the community of Vagharshapat in Armavir Province, where local elections are scheduled for November 16. Harutyun Mkrtchyan, a candidate from the Republic Party, alleged that on November 1, the Nersisyans disrupted his campaign activities.

Investigators have decided to detain 68-year-old Gevorg Nersisyan and his son pending possible arrest.
