U.S. envoy says talks with Russian representative were constructive

U.S. President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff said meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s representative Kirill Dmitriev in Florida were positive and constructive.

In a post on X, Witkoff said the two-day talks aimed to advance U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine.

The U.S. delegation included the same officials who took part in talks with Ukraine — Witkoff, Jared Kushner and White House staffer Josh Grunbaum.

Witkoff said Russia remained fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine and appreciated U.S. efforts and support in resolving the conflict, according to his post.

Dmitriev earlier made similar remarks, though neither side disclosed details of the discussions.

Dmitriev also hinted that the next round of U.S.-Russia talks could take place in Moscow, writing on X: “Thank you, Miami. Next time: Moscow.”

The Miami meetings followed three days of talks between U.S. and Ukrainian representatives, after which Witkoff said Kyiv remained committed to pursuing peace. He said the sides discussed four documents, including a 20-point peace plan, U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine and a roadmap for Ukraine’s economic development.
