Baku, Jan 27 (Reuters) – Turkey and Saudi Arabia could play a mediating role in the diplomatic resolution of the situation with Iran, according to the pro-government Turkish newspaper Hürriyet.

Columnist Abdulkadir Selvi said a political solution is still possible and highlighted the role of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the process.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan urged the U.S. not to turn Iran into a “second Venezuela,” noting that Tehran is ready for negotiations but may take a hard line under pressure.

Justice and Development Party spokesman Omer Celik warned of potential negative consequences of foreign interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
