Prosecutor seeks 13-year prison sentence for Azer Gasimli

The trial of Azer Gasimli, director of the Institute of Political Management and political analyst, continued at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes.

At the latest hearing, the judicial investigation was concluded, after which the parties moved to closing arguments. The prosecutor requested that Gasimli be sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The defense attorney asked the court for time to prepare the closing statement. The next hearing is scheduled for February 25.

Gasimli was detained on December 8 last year. According to the investigation, he allegedly demanded $45,000 from Gurbanali Yusifov, threatening murder, child abduction, and violence. Case materials state that the defendant received 6,800 manats.

Gasimli has fully denied the charges. He is accused under Article 182.2.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (extortion involving violence).
