The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has called on citizens to strictly observe fire safety rules while lighting traditional bonfires on the Tuesdays preceding the Novruz holiday.

In its statement, the ministry warned that failure to comply with fire safety requirements when lighting bonfires could result in serious consequences.

“Bonfires should be lit away from buildings, vehicles, power lines, trees and any flammable materials. Minors gathering around bonfires must remain under adult supervision. Exercise caution when jumping over the fire and ensure that it is completely extinguished after the celebrations,” the statement said.

The ministry also urged citizens not to leave burning candles unattended on festive tables.

Today marks the first Tuesday of Novruz in Azerbaijan — Su chərşənbəsi (Water Tuesday). The four Tuesdays preceding Novruz are known as Water Tuesday, Fire Tuesday, Wind Tuesday and Earth Tuesday.
