Backup generators fail to activate in Baku metro after tunnel short circuit
Backup generators in the Baku metro did not activate after a short circuit because the fault occurred inside a tunnel, a spokesperson for Baku Metro said on Tuesday.
The spokesperson said the causes of the incident were under investigation and that more information would be released in the coming days.
Baku Metro has previously said it had purchased 17 generators with a combined capacity of 39 megawatts to maintain minimum operation of electrical equipment and prevent trains from being stranded in tunnels during power disruptions.
The metro operator earlier temporarily restricted passenger access to all stations.
Baku Metro said a fault occurred at about 1210 local time on the Ulduz-Narimanov section while high voltage was being supplied to the contact rail.
