Baku may formally cut ties with European Parliament

Baku may formally cut ties with European Parliament
29.04.2026 17:00

Azerbaijan may suspend relations with the European Parliament in response to what Baku sees as the body’s biased position towards the country, Trend news agency reported.

According to the agency, Azerbaijan had already effectively halted contacts with the European Parliament. However, an official decision may now be taken to fully cut relations with the institution. The issue is currently under discussion.

The move comes after a draft resolution titled “Support for democratic resilience in Armenia” was submitted for debate in the European Parliament. Although formally presented as a document in support of Armenia, Baku says the draft contains a number of unfounded accusations and demands directed against Azerbaijan.

If such a decision is adopted, relations between Azerbaijan and the European Parliament, already strained in recent years, could enter a phase of complete political freeze.
