Contactless fare payment via NFC using international bank cards is now available on public transport in Baku, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency said.

According to the agency, the new feature allows foreign citizens and tourists to pay fares directly with their bank cards without needing to purchase local transport solutions.

Previously, the system supported only NFC-enabled cards issued by local banks, creating inconvenience for visitors.

The contactless payment system was introduced last year and is now available not only in Baku, but also in Ganja and on the Baku-Sumgait route. The addition of international cards marks the next stage in the digitalisation of the country’s transport system.
