U.S. Secret Service agents shot an armed suspect near the White House on Sunday after he fled on foot and opened fire during an encounter with officers, while President Donald Trump was inside the White House and was not harmed.

The White House was briefly locked down after the shooting. The suspect was hospitalized, and a juvenile bystander was also wounded by gunfire from the suspect but was not in life-threatening condition, Reuters reported, citing the Secret Service.

The Secret Service said the suspect was not on White House grounds. Authorities recovered a weapon, and the investigation is being led by Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department.
