Baku and Bishkek discuss charter flights to Issyk-Kul
Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan are discussing the launch of direct seasonal charter flights from Baku to Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Maksat Mamytkanov, said.
He said talks were underway with Azerbaijan’s national carrier AZAL on organising the flights.
“We are currently holding talks with AZAL on organising direct seasonal charter flights from Baku to Issyk-Kul,” the diplomat said.
Mamytkanov said the development of transport links was connected with major regional infrastructure projects, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
He said the route would create a shorter corridor for transporting goods from China to Europe via Kyrgyzstan.
The ambassador also pointed to the importance of transport routes across the Caspian Sea and through Azerbaijan. He said the possible implementation of the Zangezur corridor could increase cargo flows through Azerbaijani ports and Central Asia.
Mamytkanov said the sides were also discussing joint initiatives in shipping, including the construction and financing of vessels and the creation of a joint shipping company.
Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan are also working to expand trade and economic cooperation and increase the range and volume of goods supplied.
The ambassador said Kyrgyzstan had proposed setting up an Azerbaijan-Kyrgyzstan business council to help the business communities of the two countries develop joint projects.
