Baku plans to clean up three lakes — Boyukshor, Zykh and Khojasan — as part of new initiatives with the World Bank, Economy Ministry official Gunel Guliyeva said.

She spoke at a WUF13 session on combating plastic pollution, held at Azerbaijan’s pavilion.

Guliyeva said the Economy Ministry and the World Bank were planning new joint projects.

She said a Baku grant project was implemented in 2025 with the World Bank to support urban governance, public services and green economy technologies.

The next stage of the grant project will include new initiatives with the World Bank, she said.

One of the key components will be the cleanup of the three lakes near the capital.
