Moldova says Azerbaijan played key role in diversifying gas supplies
Azerbaijan played an important role in helping Moldova diversify its gas supplies and strengthen energy security, Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu said on Monday.
Speaking at Baku Energy Week, Junghietu said Moldova had moved in a short period of time from near-total dependence on a single energy source to a diversified system integrated with European markets.
“Romania, Bulgaria and our friends in Azerbaijan were instrumental in securing diversified and reliable access to gas supplies for Moldova,” he said.
The minister noted that Moldova and Ukraine synchronized their power systems with the European ENTSO-E network in record time, improving the resilience of electricity supply.
According to Junghietu, Moldova increased its installed renewable energy capacity twelvefold over the past four years, from 77 megawatts to more than 1 gigawatt.
He added that the country is investing in energy storage systems and building new electricity interconnections with Romania and Ukraine.
