SOCAR launches full redevelopment of Bahar field, says Babek Huseynov

SOCAR has launched a full redevelopment programme for the Bahar field in partnership with SLB, SOCAR Vice President for Production Babek Huseynov said.

According to Huseynov, Bahar has traditionally been viewed as a field in continuous decline.

“We are giving new life to this field. A full redevelopment programme is underway. We are working with our trusted partner SLB,” Huseynov said during Baku Energy Week.

He said SOCAR’s subsurface teams had completed calculations and developed full static and dynamic reservoir models.

“They are quoting numbers, and I will quote them as well: the numbers are so large they even scare me. And we are talking about both oil and gas,” he said.

Huseynov also said SOCAR aims to transform Baku into a hub for energy engineering, operational excellence, offshore expertise and highly qualified oil and gas professionals.

He said SOCAR is expanding its international upstream portfolio, including the Tamar gas field, Shah Deniz oil and gas projects and the Elei project in Ivory Coast.

“The next generation of upstream value will be created not only through new discoveries but also through reinventing existing fields,” Huseynov said.
