Azerbaijan and Iran discuss development of Astara terminal
Azerbaijan and Iran have discussed the further development of the Astara cargo terminal, a key component of the International North-South Transport Corridor.
The talks focused on construction progress, project implementation timelines and ways to expand railway cooperation between the two countries.
According to official data, the terminal, located in Iran and operated by the Azerbaijani side under a long-term arrangement, is expected to have an annual handling capacity of 3.5 million tonnes once completed.
The project is regarded as a strategic logistics hub linking Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran and South Asian markets through the North-South transport corridor.
