Baku Metro to separate Red and Green lines within 11 months
Baku Metro CJSC plans to complete the operational separation of its Red and Green lines within approximately 11 months, enabling both routes to function independently.
Namiq Yusubov, Chief Engineer of Baku Metro CJSC, disclosed the timeline during a media tour marking the completion of Phase 2 works and the arrival of the first train at the Darnagul electric depot.
Yusubov noted that establishing dedicated depots for each line is a prerequisite for the separation. To this end, construction at the Darnagul depot is progressing, with 12 out of 25 planned maintenance bays now operational to service trains running on the Green Line.
Following the separation, Red Line trains will operate along the "Hazi Aslanov – Icherisheher" route, while Green Line service will run between "Darnagul" and "Nizami". The transition is expected to improve train frequency, enhance system reliability, and optimize operational intervals. Passengers have been asked for understanding regarding potential temporary disruptions during construction.
