Baku Metro to procure nearly 200 new cars for Purple Line by 2030

Baku Metro CJSC plans to procure nearly 200 new train cars for its Purple Line by 2030, according to Chief Engineer Namiq Yusubov in a statement to Anews.az.

Yusubov noted that Baku Metro currently operates 71 train sets, with older rolling stock still in service on the Purple Line. Fleet modernization will extend beyond the Purple Line, with additional trains planned for the Red and Green lines as ongoing infrastructure projects to reduce headways near completion.

According to the chief engineer, constructing a turnaround track at the "Icherisheher" station on the Red Line, alongside building future stations Y-14 and Y-15 and a crossover chamber on the Green Line, will enable significantly tighter train intervals.

A core initiative of the expansion program involves decoupling the Red and Green lines, a project targeted for completion within approximately 11 months. Following the separation, operations will run independently along the "Hazi Aslanov–Icherisheher" and "Darnagul–Nizami" routes.
