Azerbaijan Press Council strongly condemns offensive rhetoric in Russian media
The Azerbaijan Press Council has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the systematic publication of offensive, disparaging, and threatening commentary targeting the Azerbaijani state, its people, state leadership, and prominent historical figures across certain Russian media outlets.
The Council underscored that such coverage blatantly breaches standard journalistic ethics, universal civil norms, and the fundamental spirit of bilateral Azerbaijani-Russian interstate and media relations. The statement highlighted that Azerbaijani media have consistently exercised high professional sensitivity and adhered strictly to editorial standards regarding neighboring nations, including Russia.
The Press Council noted that given the stringent regulatory framework governing the Russian information space, the unchecked and systemic emergence of such derogatory narratives risks being perceived as condoned at an official policy level. The body called upon the Russian media community and broader civic institutions to take decisive measures against efforts aimed at undermining bilateral ties, while reminding perpetrators of their legal accountability under media and international standards.
