Aliyev congratulates Zelensky and Ukrainian people on 35th anniversary of independence

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.

In a congratulatory letter released by the Azerbaijani presidential press service, Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the current state of Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations.

“The current level of Azerbaijan-Ukraine friendly relations, which have rich traditions, is a source of satisfaction. Our political dialogue, high-level mutual visits and cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres are important elements of our strategic partnership,” Aliyev said in the letter.

The Azerbaijani president also highlighted the two countries’ long-standing cooperation in the energy sector.

Aliyev highly valued the outcome of Zelensky’s working visit to Azerbaijan in April and the meeting he held with the Ukrainian president.

“Undoubtedly, our regular meetings and contacts, as well as our mutual support on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty of our countries, are among the key factors strengthening interstate relations,” Aliyev said.

He noted that active dialogue at the highest level provides favourable conditions for expanding cooperation in various areas, including trade and economic ties, humanitarian cooperation, agriculture and investment.

Aliyev said Azerbaijan would continue providing humanitarian support to the Ukrainian people.

He expressed confidence that Azerbaijan-Ukraine friendly relations would continue to strengthen in the interests of the two peoples and wished the Ukrainian people peace, stability and prosperity.
