Azerikimya outlines annual output capacity: Ethylene reaches 190,000 tons
The annual production capacity of SOCAR’s Azerikimya Production Union stands at 190,000 tons for ethylene and 187,000 tons for propylene, Process Director Samir Salimli announced during a media tour of the Ethylene-Polyethylene plant.
Salimli noted that extensive modernization completed between 2016 and 2021 increased ethylene and propylene design capacities by 40% and 70% respectively, with the complex operating at these benchmarks for five consecutive years. An automation and control system upgrade is underway, with engineering works 95% complete and on-site implementation slated for 2027.
Alongside core olefins, the facility produces hydrogen, butylene-butadiene fractions, and pyrolysis resins. After covering domestic industrial demand, low-density polyethylene is exported to Turkey and European markets, while surplus electricity generated by its steam-power unit is supplied to the Sumgayit grid.
