Azerikimya to supply by-product hydrogen via pipeline to Azerfloat glass plant

SOCAR’s Azerikimya Production Union is preparing to pipeline and commercialize by-product hydrogen to the Azerfloat glass plant in Sumgayit, Operations Manager Ilgar Gurbanov announced during a media tour of the Ethylene-Polyethylene facility.

Gurbanov confirmed that project engineering documentation has been finalized and approved by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, with pipeline installation now commencing. The initiative converts previously flared hydrogen into commercial feedstock, generating supplemental revenues for Azerikimya while expanding Azerfloat's operational yield. Utilizing hydrogen will also reduce carbon emissions during manufacturing, improving the carbon footprint and export competitiveness of sheet glass bound for European markets.

Located in the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park, Azerfloat operates with an annual capacity of 90,000 tons—or roughly nine million square meters of float sheet glass.
