IMF lifts Azerbaijan’s current account surplus projection
13.10.2026 11:00

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised its surplus projections for Azerbaijan’s balance-of-payments current account for 2026 and 2027, according to its updated economic outlook. The Fund now expects the current account surplus to reach 11.3% of GDP in 2026 and 9.8% in 2027, up 1.6 and 4.4 percentage points respectively from its May forecasts of 9.7% and 5.4%.

The upward revisions follow strong external performance in the first half of 2026, during which Azerbaijan's current account surplus expanded to $4.7 billion, representing 12.4% of total GDP.
