OPEC affirms oil’s dominance in future energy mix
Oil and natural gas will retain a central role in the global energy balance for decades to come, and artificially accelerating the green energy transition risks triggering supply shortages and severe price shocks, OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais stated at the 25th WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh.
Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman echoed this stance, stressing that climate targets must be balanced against supply reliability, price stability, and economic realities.
Highlighting the Kingdom's expansion into renewables and power capacity to meet soaring demand—including from artificial intelligence infrastructure—the minister also revealed plans to upgrade regional pumping stations, boosting the throughput capacity of the East-West pipeline to approximately 10 million barrels per day to hedge against Gulf transit disruptions.
