Vugar Zifaroglu elected as new Press Council chairman

Vugar Zifaroglu was elected as the new Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council during the 9th Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists.

Zifaroglu's candidacy was put forward by the Board of the Press Council and approved following a vote by congress delegates. He succeeds Rashad Majid, who had served as chairman since the 8th Congress on September 24, 2022, following longtime head Aflatun Amashov. Established on March 15, 2003, at the 1st Congress with the participation of around 180 leading media outlets, the Press Council functions as the primary self-regulatory media body in Azerbaijan, overseeing adherence to professional journalistic ethics and handling public press grievances.
