Azerbaijan banking sector capital reaches 7.2B AZN
Total aggregate capital across Azerbaijan's banking sector expanded by 4.7% during the first eight months of 2026 to reach 7.2 billion AZN, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) Toghrul Aliyev announced at a risk management forum.
Aliyev highlighted that the sector's capital adequacy ratio reached 17.3%, well above minimum regulatory thresholds. The liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) stood at 164% across the broader system and 138% in the national currency.
Emphasizing the compounding challenges of geopolitical uncertainty, cyber risks, and financial crimes, the deputy governor stated that risk management now serves as a foundation for strategic decision-making rather than a mere defensive buffer.
To support resilience, the CBA has rolled out macroprudential supervision guidelines, a risk-based oversight framework, and roadmaps for SupTech and sustainable finance, alongside an active regulatory sandbox enabling institutions to pilot novel fintech products.
