Tokayev Proposes Russia’s Accession or Observer Status in Organization of Turkic States
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed exploring the possibility of the Russian Federation joining the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) or granting it official observer status within the bloc.
Tokayev stated that engaging Moscow would elevate the international standing and geopolitical authority of the OTS. The Kazakh leader pointed to centuries of shared historical and cultural ties between Russia and the Turkic world, underscoring the indigenous Turkic peoples inhabiting the country and the Russian cultural initiative "Altai: The Cradle of the Turkic Civilization." He also referenced profound linguistic overlaps, noting the extensive presence of Turkic-origin loanwords within the Russian lexicon.
