Turkmenistan approves National Climate Change Strategy
24.09.2019 22:00

Turkmenistan has approved a new version of the National Strategy for Climate Change, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen head of state’s promulgated resolution.

The document was adopted "in order to strengthen the legal foundations of state policy in the field of environmental protection, identify key areas of activity to prevent climate change and reduce it negative impact, as well as implement international legal instruments."

Turkmenistan is one of the first states to adopt the National Strategy for Climate Change in 2012. However, in recent years, the UN has adopted a number of important documents on global development, including the 2030 Strategy and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

With this in mind, a new version of the Strategy of Turkmenistan in this area was developed. Since the adoption of the previous National Strategy, the relevant state structures of Turkmenistan have implemented a number of projects aimed at climate-friendly livelihoods in arid regions, energy efficiency and rational water use.
