Trump raises tariffs on South Korean imports to 25%

U.S. President Donald Trump said he would raise tariffs on imports from South Korea to 25%, accusing the country’s parliament of failing to ratify a trade agreement reached with Washington nearly six months ago.

“The South Korean legislature has not fulfilled the terms of the deal with the United States,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Trump said the agreement was reached with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on July 30, 2025, and later reaffirmed during his visit to South Korea on Oct. 29.

He said that due to the lack of ratification of what he described as a “historic trade agreement,” tariffs on South Korean automobiles, timber, pharmaceutical products and other goods would be increased from 15% to 25%.
