New seismic maps are being prepared for Baku, Sumgait and Absheron
New seismic maps are being developed for Baku, Sumgait and the Absheron Peninsula to provide a more accurate assessment of earthquake risk and support more informed decisions in construction and urban planning, especially in densely populated areas, Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Adil Abdullayev said.
He said the new maps would reflect not only potential earthquake zones but also the sensitivity of territories from a construction standpoint.
Gurban Yetirmishli, director general of the Republican Seismological Service Center, said for his part that it was impossible to predict an earthquake precisely in advance.
At the same time, he said current observations did not indicate that a destructive earthquake was expected in the country.
