Azerbaijan to Digitize Fishing Quotas and Catch Registration to Curb Illegal Trade

Azerbaijan plans to register all fishing quotas and caught aquatic bioresources within a centralized digital database, according to Jeyhun Aliyev, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center.

Speaking at a press conference, Aliyev explained that under the framework of the updated Law on Fisheries, new supervisory and tracking mechanisms will be implemented to prevent illegally caught fish from entering commercial markets. Following the allocation of quotas, updated fishing regulations will take effect, requiring commercial fishermen and aquaculture operators to submit digital catch and production declarations via an online portal.

The digital system will log product types, batch details, and measurements. When products enter commercial circulation, data from the Ministry of Agriculture's system will integrate with other state registries—including food safety authorities—to ensure traceability and combat poaching.
